Our Reubens this weekend will be made with a special rye bread, made just for us by our friends at DeLallo‘s. Not to worry, we will not be using the bread pictured. This was “model” bread, created for picture taking, publicity photos and tasting. The bread we will be using is so fresh, it hasn’t even been made yet.
Freshness for you,
-Cheers.
Did you know that “Hallow” and “Saint” are synonymous? And that “Allhallowtide” is a time of remembrance of past martyrs, Saints and all other faithful departed, and is actually a 3 day event?
The first day or ” All Hallows eve “, (contracted as Hallowe’en), honors the non-Saint martyrs and other faithful who have passed. Though celebrated differently worldwide, North American Christians believed that the veil between here and the afterlife thinned during this time. They wore costumes to remain unrecognized by the departed souls. So as you’re doing your best to dodge the forsaken Souls this Saturday keep in mind that this is only the first night of a 3 day celebration, and the second day is All Saints Day!
On All Hallow’s (Saint’s) Day, we honor all of the Saints and Martyrs, both known and unknown who have gone before. The third day is known as All Soul’s Day and serves as a day to remember all of the faithful departed souls not yet memorialized. While we are under no contractual obligation to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve, nor All Soul’s Day – though All Soul’s Day has traditionally been combined with All Saint’s Day, plus we’re closed on Mondays (rest for the LIVING Souls) – I believe we are obligated, perhaps even by Brewery charter, to undertake some significant fete to mark the day, in honor of our namesake – All Saints.
So have fun Saturday, we will certainly be open as usual to welcome all of our loyal, disguised Craft Beer Citizenry, and you may even find a masquerading All Saints worker or two, but we will steadfastly be preparing for the second and third leg of the Allhollowtide triduum to follow on Sunday November 1st. Make sure you pace yourselves Good Craft Beer Citizenry… it’s a marathon not a sprint.
